Sourced from vines planted in 1972, this striking dry Riesling delves into perfumed tones of peach, apple, jasmine and slate. There's richness to the palate yet immense lift and drive, with lasting acidity and crushed-stone verve pushing it along. It lingers long on a resounding citrus finish. (Editors' Choice)

The 2019 Timeline Dry Riesling comes in with seven grams of residual sugar and 12% alcohol. This is a nervy and tense Riesling—a lot different than the regular Riesling from Standing Stone included in this report. Since Wiemer's purchase of Standing Stone, this is the best wine I've seen yet, and it is somewhat different than most of Wiemer's own offerings in this report; it is a little more focused on intensity. Dry, pure and aromatic, this wine revels in its freshness. There is also a surprising concentration of fruit. As it airs out and warms, it seems to be the essence of Riesling at times. Can it improve and demonstrate even more class? It could use a bit more time in the bottle. It needs to both hold and develop, and it is a little closed despite its exuberance. It should do well, and it is worth leaning up on this today in anticipation of its potential. In fact, I will be surprised if it isn't better this time next year or the year after. There were 800 cases produced from 1972 vines.
